How the TLH Team handle stress in the workplace and at home
Every year, April is marked as Stress Awareness Month. With over 776,000 reported cases of work-related stress, depression, or anxiety in the UK alone, it’s a reminder that mental wellbeing needs to stay front and centre!
In the fast-paced marketing world, where deadlines are tight, turnarounds are fast, and creativity is constant, the TLH team is no stranger to stress. But while we can’t always control the chaos, we can control how we support one another through it.
At TLH, the well-being of our team is at the heart of our culture. We’ve worked hard over the years to build a space where people feel supported, not just in their work but also in their everyday lives. After all, we’re not just a company, we’re a small family.
Stress Awareness Month is about breaking the cycle, spotting the early signs of burnout, and learning how to better check in with ourselves and each other.
So, we asked the team: How do you manage stress—inside and outside of work?
In the Workplace
Quick Ticks List
Sometimes, long ‘to-do’ lists almost feel never-ending and can become incredibly overwhelming. But breaking them down into smaller, actionable items helps us regain control; we call these ‘Quick Ticks’. These include your emails, check-ins, calls and anything that can be completed in under 15 minutes. Ticking these off your list gives you a sense of achievement before the day has even begun!
Coffee and Catch-Up
One thing we love about the TLH team is the openness within the office and amongst the team. Whether it’s a quick catch-up across the office or taking a quick coffee break, there is always room to talk, vent, or even sometimes the occasional (lighthearted) scream. By creating this open environment, the team automatically feels as though they can stay connected and reduce stress in real time throughout the day.
Walk-and-Talks
When the office air feels a little heavy, a change of scenery can work wonders. That’s why we’ve embraced walk-and-talk meetings, taking conversations outside to refresh our minds while keeping the momentum going. With sunnier days making a comeback, our lunchtime mental health walks have also returned, and we are so here for it.
Outside of Work
Physical Activity
A common theme across our fitness-loving office was the difference that movement can make on the mind. Few team members are keen runners and hikers who really make the most of the outdoors and the difference fresh air, good music, and movement can make on the body.
Golf
We have multiple golf enthusiasts in the office, even though from the sounds of it, it may cause more stress than it cures… As the weather gets warmer, you will hear more and more whispers about heading to the driving range, with the occasional team meet-up to relax and to swing some clubs.
Reading
The office bookworms have created the informal ‘TLH Library,’ where we share and swap books. Reading is the perfect way to escape, decompress and resent your brain.
Other Stress Busters We Love
- Journaling
- Music and podcasts
- Setting boundaries
- Meditation
Stress will always be a part of life, how we manage it can make the most difference. At TLH, we are proud of the culture we have created amongst the team, where talking about our mental wellbeing isn’t taboo but a tool for growth.
Even though Stress Awareness Month has ended, we still encourage other companies to check in, speak up and take small steps towards a healthier headspace.
