Celebrating Our Apprentices During National Apprenticeship Week

Throughout the TLH Marketing journey, we’ve supported a variety of apprenticeship schemes and programmes that help build the foundation of a long and successful career in the marketing industry.

Working closely with Baltic Apprenticeships, we primarily focus on digital marketing. However, this is the first year we have expanded our career opportunities, offering a Software Development Apprenticeship role!

We firmly believe that apprentices help shape the future of any business. They’re passionate, eager, and dedicated to achieving success. We’re so proud to have supported some very talented apprentices, and we’re honoured to celebrate them here at TLH Marketing

Find out all about their journey below!

Jordan Lucy

Junior Software Developer Apprentice

Our newest apprentice, Jordan joined TLH in November 2023. Working as a Junior Web Developer, Jordan works closely with our Lead Web Developer, Matt Burns, creating and developing a number of websites for our clients.

What have you learnt so far during your apprenticeship scheme?

Since starting my apprenticeship, I have gained valuable insights into software development in general, but more specifically, it has highlighted the advantages of using WordPress and the benefits that it creates when building and updating websites.

Over the past few months with TLH, I have learnt more and more about the company, the team and the values shared. It has been great to work directly with clients and learn more about how valued the clients are.

Since starting, I have slowly been introduced to clients and have started to build a rapport with them, which is a first for me as I have never worked directly with clients. These interactions have lead to a notable improvement with regards to my communication skills.

So far, I have picked up various new tools and put them into practice every day. I look forward to learning more as I develop in my role within TLH.

Where do you see yourself in your career within the next 5 years?

In the next 5 years, I envision myself in a senior position with refined knowledge of software development. My goal is to become a mentor, sharing the insights I’ve gained with others, whether they’re starting their journey in software development or within the team.

I believe that knowledge is a great asset, and it should be shared as much as possible. Working with clients has been an aspect I have enjoyed, and so I would like to carry this on and hopefully build up relationships of my own with clients in the future.

What was it about TLH that stood out to you?

As a company, they have a very personalised approach, and openness to suggestions aimed at improving internal processes and business aspects. To me, it demonstrated that TLH is always ready to adapt and willing to take on new challenges. As someone who seeks challenges, this resonated with me and actively drew me into researching more about TLH from the start.

The diverse range of projects undertaken by TLH stood out, offering a continuous learning experience with the regular integration of new tools and skills in response to client requirements.

Also, I am a people person, the team that I had met before starting at TLH were lovely. The team makes a big difference in the workplace, and I don’t think they could have put a better group of individuals together.

Three words to describe working at TLH

Fun, rewarding, collaborative.

What advice would you give someone interested in doing an apprenticeship?

Reflecting on my positive start to the apprenticeship, I highly recommend it. I think that it is one of, if not, the best route to picking up new skills and gaining an insight into the direction of your career without sacrificing too much time.

I believe that it gives more of an insight into the world of work and practical experience than a degree could give. With hands-on learning and active application of newly learnt skills, it is a great route into a career pursuit.

When applying for apprenticeships, I can’t stress the importance of researching the company you are applying for before sending an application. The team and work will make a difference, it is for that reason that I am enjoying the apprenticeship so much.

Emilie Jenkinson

Digital Marketing Apprentice

Emilie joined TLH in 2022 as a Digital Marketing Apprentice. She successfully passed her apprenticeship programme in 2023 and has since been promoted to Digital Marketing Assistant.

Although Emilie is the youngest member of our TLH team, she is one of our most creative!

Why did you choose TLH for your apprenticeship?

I chose TLH Marketing because I felt welcomed into a fun, positive and creative environment. From day one, I have felt a valued member of the team, which is helping me grow into the marketer I am today.

What has been your favourite part of your TLH journey so far?

My favourite part, but also my biggest accomplishment so far would be successfully completing my apprenticeship last summer. My hard work has enabled me to become a full-time member of the TLH team. This is what I wanted to accomplish when I started my apprenticeship, and I am so proud that I have.

What has TLH done to help you in your marketing career?

TLH has helped me to learn, grow and progress beyond my apprenticeship as I’m always learning new things that allow me to build my future. Every day in marketing is different, one day we could be creating Google or social ads, the other, we could be capturing and editing videos.

Every one of our clients is different and I love the diversity each day brings.

What is your favourite part of marketing?

I have always enjoyed being creative, so any part of marketing such as design that allows me to be creative, I really enjoy! I love how the team has given me creative freedom to bring my ideas to life.

During my career so far, I have worked on a range of design projects, from creating graphics for social media, to advertisement banners, to food menus, and even a company logo. It’s amazing to see the journey of designs we envision, to being created, to being printed for our customers.

What advice would you give to someone interested in doing an apprenticeship?

If you are thinking of doing an apprenticeship, just go for it! It’s the first step to opening many doors for your future!

George Burrows

Digital Marketing Apprentice & Web Developer

George joined TLH in 2017 as a fresh-faced 18 year old. Starting his career as a Digital Marketing Apprentice, he found a passion for web development, later progressing to become our Digital Marketing Executive & Web Developer.

Having excelled in this role, building long-lasting relationships with clients, and managing many successful campaigns, George was promoted to Strategy and Account Manager in 2024.

What have you learnt in the years working and progressing in your roles at TLH?

Throughout the years, I have learnt a plethora of skills, ranging from being professional and building relationships with clients, to general marketing skills and knowledge, to web design, and always looking into new ideas on a regular basis.

The marketing world is always evolving, and we have to ensure we’re staying ahead of the curve with new trends that help us create solid strategies for our clients, continuing their success.

What is your main highlight/biggest achievement to date?

I would say probably bringing new ideas to the business and also now being able to get involved in the web side of things. Creativity is a huge aspect of marketing, and it’s important we are always bringing new ideas to the table, whether it’s a stand out tagline, new graphic, ad, or video.

Finding new ways to promote our customers’ brand, services, products, and employee wins is a challenge, but it’s all worth it when we achieve a successful campaign.

What element of marketing is your favourite?

I love everything about the way we can market a particular service or product using multi-channels. With having a variety of clients, we promote to a wide range of audiences and demographics within a diverse range of industries.

What works for one client might not work for another, so creating new approaches and ways to target the right audience with the right message is something I thoroughly enjoy within my role.

Describe TLH in three words

Creative, friendly and results-driven.

What advice would you give someone interested in doing an apprenticeship?

Just keep working at it and try your best, you will learn a lot of relevant skills along the way. It is an incredibly rewarding role, and one that can open a lot of doors throughout your career journey.

What do you want to achieve in your career within the next 5 years?

I would love to work towards a senior position in the business, so that I can carry on pushing new offerings and technology within TLH, which in turn, benefit our clients.
